Acts part 15: Fighting Beasts in Ephesus.
Craig Botha continues in the series of Acts, Fighting Beasts in Ephesus. Key Scriptures: Acts 19:11-20 Answer the following questions to help you deal with idols in your own life. IDOL DIAGNOSTIC TOOL Specifically, what is my greatest nightmare? What do I worry about most? Describe it. What, if I failed it or lost it, would make me feel that I didn’t not even want to live? What keeps me going? What do I rely on or comfort myself with when things go bad or get difficult? What do I think most easily about? What does my mind go to when I have free time? What preoccupies me? What prayer, unanswered, would make me seriously think about turning away from God? What makes me feel the most self-worth? What am I the most proud of? What do I really want and expect out of life? What would really make me happy? Now that you’ve answered the questions above, look for common themes. Write below what you think are the most functional masters? What things tend to be more important to you – because that is where your unbelief in the gospel lives? To remove and replace idols we must repent of idolatry and rejoice in Christ again and put Christ on in the particular area of your vulnerability – see Romans 13:14. Rejoicing completes repentance as you treasure and taste the sweetness of Christ – enabling your heart to relax its grip on anything else it thinks it needs! It is also helpful sometimes to ask for prayer and make yourself accountable to someone else to permanently establish gospel change in your life. May God bless you as you kick idols out of your life!
